Bolaffi company is delighted to present the XXI movie and advertising posters auction that will be held in Turin, at Bolaffi premises in Via Cavour 17, on Saturday, May 27th 2006 at 2.00 p.m.
243 movie posters and 600 advertising posters will be auctioned.
The catalogue features posters created by the most celebrated poster designers from Italy and abroad, such as Leonetto Cappiello, Anselmo Ballester, Adolfo Hohenstein, Marcello Dudovich, Armando Testa, Leopoldo Metlicovitz, Jules Cheret and Alphone Mucha.
The rich movie section includes a masterpiece in the history of silent cinema: the rare 1st edition of “Battleship Potemkin” poster, designed by Aleksandr Rodchenko in 1925. As far as sound movies is concerned, an entire section is dedicated to Humphrey Bogart: posters celebrating Bogart’s praised interpretations such as “A Holy Terror”, “The Treasure of the Sierra Madre”, “Chain Lightning” will be auctioned as well. It’s worth mentioning the beautiful poster by Ercole Brini for “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and the one Carlantonio Longi designed for “The wizard of Oz”.
The advertising posters section is also extremely interesting: it includes posters created for popular Italian brands such as “Campari”, “Martini”, “Fernet Branca” and “Fiat”, furthermore a great set of tourism posters from the Thirties depicting some famous Italian and foreign resorts (Santa Margherita Ligure, Garda lake, Acqui, the Cote d’Azur, Samaden and Montana-Vermala).
Last but not least, three extraordinary posters for Alassio carnival, Sanremo and Finale Ligure drawn by Filippo Romoli between 1930 and 1931.
