One of approximately 6,000 manufactured by Remington of which 5,000 were purchased by the U.S. government. The pistol has a 8-inch blued barrel, casehardened frame with distinctive 'hump' on the back strap and oil-finished walnut grip and forearm. The hammer and breechblock are finished bright. The left side of the frame is marked " REMINGTON'S ILION N.Y. U.S.A. / PAT MAY 3D NOV 15TH 1864 APRIL 17TH 1866" in two lines and stamped with a "P" and "S". The script initials of the Ordnance inspector "C.R.S." are enclosed in a rectangle on the left side of the grip. The forearm has checkered panels. Photographed on the top of page 331 of the WM. M. Condition: Excellent plus. The barrel retains 99% plus original blue finish with only the most delicate storage type wear. The frame exhibits 99% original vivid case colors which still display their original factory luster. The hammer and breechblock are like new. The wood is excellent plus. The edges are sharp. The ordnance cartouche is crisp and clear. Impossible to improve upon and from the esteemed WM Locke Collection.
