Magnificent Engraved Presentation Henry Rifle
Serial #5218, presented to Civil War Major General Eli Long, who was in command of the 4th Ohio Cavalry. This amazing rifle is an all matching number
Henry that was presented to a highly decorated Civil War officer. The receiver has natural even mustard brass patina, with a rare presentation style fine intricate engraving pattern. The edge lines and crisp function of the action show that this rifle has seen very little use.
The barrel shows sharp edges, clearly legible address and serial number, and is an attractive dark patina. The wood fits beautifully, is flush at the metal, and has a
very attractive medium color and wood grain. A rifle in wonderful condition with incredible history as a finishing touch. Inscribed to Colonel Long for having commanded the 4th Ohio in 1863 and 64’. Eli Long was then appointed by President Abraham Lincoln as Brigadier General on August 18th, 1864 and confirmed by the Senate. Col. Long is a well recognized soldier who was wounded 5 times in battle, also cited for gallantry 5 times, and was a very significant figure in
American history.
