Magda Frohberg Pach (1884-1950), Letters.
PACH, MAGDA FROHBERG. 1884-1950. A group of approx. 14 autograph letters signed, 1918-1938. Two of the letters with envelopes, the rest are loose. Most are multiple sheets, written on both sides, on stationery approx. 6 12in x 5in. At least one letter on Pach's New York address letterhead, and the rest mostly identified as being sent from New York. Condition: The group is in overall good condition; occasional light soilingspotting, creasing; all are folded. The envelopes with tearssoiling, and stamps cut off.  The letters are addressed to both Harriet Dean and Elsie Martinez, and include news and discussion of Pach's own work, typing a manuscript for Walter, news of family and friends, as well as eventsexhibits and other aspects of art and the New York art scene.  OF NOTE: In a letter dated July, 28, 1922, Pach writes of seeing Diego Rivera working: "Diego Rivera is decorating a meeting hall with frescos. Around him is a number of young Mexicans, who all are working seriously". In a letter dated November 28, 1938, Pach writes of the suicide of Dorothy Donovan, that her pictures were everywhere and "she must have been beautiful". She also mentions that "Her intimate friend Rosamund Pinchot committed suicide a few months earlier". Dorothy Donovan Hale (1905-1938) was married to artist Gardner Hale, who died in a car accident in 1931. Her suicide became the subject of a painting by Frida Kahlo, "The Suicide of Dorothy Hale".  Magda Pach was an artist who knew and painted Frida Kahlo, and along with her husband, artist, writer, and critic Walter Pach, supported and promoted Mexican art in the United States in the 1920s and 30s. From the Family of Xavier Martinez (1869-1943), Elsie Whitaker Martinez (1890-1984), and Micaela Martinez DuCasse (1913-1989).
