Two photos: a glossy 8 x 10 portrait of Clarke, signed and inscribed in black felt tip, “To Marcia Mosess—It’s so nice to be remembered. I thank you, Marcia, for your sweet words. Best wishes, Mae Clark 1989”; and a glossy 10 x 8 photo of Clarke as Dr. Frankenstein's bride, signed and inscribed in black ink, “To Jim Weaver, Every good wish, Mae Clarke, 1988,” with Clarke correcting collector’s notations on the reverse and signing with her initials, “Please spell it correctly, Clarke, Thank you, M. C.” The reverse also bears lengthy ink notations from two of Clarke’s secretaries. One, annotated for Clarke by Mary Croft, in full: “I do not sign undesignated autographs. Nor do I sign ‘as directed’—an open signature makes it too easy for copies in bulk for unknown profiteers. You should know that, and you should know that I know it, too. That’s why we have lawyers and copyrights, etc. Sorry to be so blunt but you seem to need the educating.” In overall fine condition, with trivial brushing to two letters of the signature on the portrait, and slight irregular ink adhesion to the Frankenstein photo; the latter originates from the Jim Weaver collection.
