“Evita” is the 1996 American film adaptation of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical of the same name based on the life of Eva Perón. It was directed by Alan Parker and starred Madonna. Discussion of the film production began soon after the original 1978 London production was staged. Several actresses were considered for the role of Eva Perón. At one point, Lloyd Webber considered actresses such as Cher, Barbra Streisand, Glenn Close, Olivia Newton-John, and even Michelle Pfeiffer. Meanwhile, Madonna had been campaigning for the part, but when Parker was ready for filming, several people objected to Madonna playing the part. The cast and crew faced protests in Argentina upon arrival over fears that the project would tarnish Eva Peron's image. Filming began on February 1996 and it finished in May. The obstacles were high; Madonna personally lobbied the president of Argentina for the right to film at the Casa Rosada. Luckily, Madonna’s added efforts were effective, the film was produced, and Madonna earned acclaim for what was said to be her finest performance as an actress.
A significant document which essentially started the process of the film, offered here is the original one-page inducement letter in which Madonna’s company, Scudder Films, agrees to loan her acting services to “Evita” producers, Wondervale Limited. Dated June 23, 1995, the document is uniquely signed in full, “Madonna Ciccone,” by the Material girl in black ink. The document is attractively matted along with images of Madonna from the film and an 8” x 10” photo of Madonna holding up her Golden Globe award, which she won for her performance in the film. Housed in a black lacquered frame and ready for display.
The autograph includes an official PSA/DNA hologram and matching LOA for authenticity purposes.
