Pioneering filmmaker (1880–1960) who founded Keystone Studios and introduced to the public such screen legends as Fatty Arbuckle, Mack Swain, The Keystone Kops, and Charlie Chaplin. DS, twice-signed as “Mack Sennett,” one page, 8.5 x 14, October 18, 1915. In part: “One day after date, without grace, for value received, I promise to pay to the Farmers & Merchants’ National Bank of Los Angeles…Twenty-five thousand two hundred dollars in Gold Coin…at the rate of Six (6) per cent per annum.” Several initialed revenue stamps affixed at the bottom. Creasing, very tiny separations at the edges along the folds, and scattered light toning and soiling, and show-through from writing on the opposing sides, otherwise fine condition. Desirable documentation from the start of Sennett’s slapstick reign.
