Pastel on Paper. Subject is Gypsy Bull Child, Glacier National Park Montana. 8 3/4" by 10 3/4" framed. Mabel Norris Anderson Bjork (1902 - 1996) was active/lived in Minnesota, Montana. Mabel Bjork is known for Landscape, historical, Indian portrait. Born in Crookston, Minnesota in 1902, she moved to North Dakota as a child in 1905. She attended the State Teachers College in Valley City, North Dakota, where she studied art with Mary Goodrich Deem and Olga Stevning. Later, she studied portraiture with Montana artist Fritz Winold Reiss and sculpture with the Russian-born Alexander Archipenko. In 1928, Bjork relocated to Kalispell, Montana, where she taught art at the local high school until she moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota in 1944. She stayed in Grand Forks, where she was active in the arts community, until 1947. She is known for her portraits of Blackfeet Indian people called "Firelit Faces".
