He attended the Art Institute of Chicago for two years, and then studied under Cecilia Beaux at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. To further develop his prodigious talent Bewley traveled to New York and studied under Robert Henri and William Merritt Chase, two of America's most accomplished portrait artists. Bewley subsequently accompanied Chase to Europe.

Bewley returned to Fort Worth in 1913 and maintained a studio in the Continental Bank building until 1918. He subsequently lived in New York, California, and Paris, France, but he continued to periodically return to Fort Worth to paint portraits of friends and three generations of his family.

Murray Bewley specialized in child portraiture. His ability to portray child-like innocence is uncanny. It takes exceptional talent to raise portraiture from the level of being just a painting of a person to being a work of fine art.

In this painting, Murray Bewley does just that. The colors he chose are magical. He captures the young girl's freshness and child-like innocence with a degree that a camera could never match. This painting transcends portraiture and successfully becomes high art.Condition Report: Excellent condition.
