Henry Colburn, 1847FIRST EDITION, pages (2), 97, (1, blank), 12mo, original green cloth, gilt : the binding sound and strong but wanting most of the backstrip and otherwise a very good copy. Apparently the only edition of this scarce collection of observations on education by a maid-of-honour to Queen Victoria and strong advocate of the Children's Friend Society. Ms Murray also planned and collected money for a College for Women, later amalgamated into Queen’s College, London.ALSO WITH THIS LOT: (1) [IRELAND ( Wm. Henry )]. With the striking engraved frontispiece, in bistre, by Rowlandson, pages xxiv, (25)-152, (4, adverts), 8vo, original brown printed paper boards, uncut : with a little wear to the headbands, but the binding strong and otherwise, a bright, fresh copy in original state.An extremely clever poem ridiculing the whig administration of the day, the most successful of the political satires by this noted Cork wit : it ran to some nineteen editions and provided the name by which that government is still known.
