RIFLES. 1) UNMARKED HALF STOCK. Cal. 44. NSN. Bbl. 35 1/2" oct. Top flat has partially visible marking ending w/ "ON". Bead front sight w/ fixed V notch rear sight. Mule ear / side hammer lock has border & highlight hand engraving. Plain trigger. Half length walnut stock w/ pewter tip. Brass fittings include crescent buttplate, pierced toeplate & trigger guard. Both sides of stock have cheekpieces ornamented German silver 8 pointed stars. German silver oval wrist plate. Hardwood ramrod held on iron under rib by brass thimble & 2 iron pipes. Weight: 6 lbs., 11 oz. CONDITON: metal finish faded to brown showing dents, surface corrosion & having pitting in breech area. Stock has dark worn appearance showing dents & handling marks. Both 8 point star key escutcheons missing from forearm, key is poorly fit brass replacement. Dark bore retaining strong rifling. 01-18073/DS). 2) J. YOUNG HALF STOCK. Cal. 40. NSN. Top flat of bbl. & lockplate marked "REMINGTON". Top flat is also marked w/ builder's name "J.YOUNG". Dbl. set triggers. German silver blade front sight & fixed V notch rear sight. Half length curly maple stock w/ pewter nose cap. Right side has brass circular lid patch box. Brass fittings include trigger guard, crescent buttplate & sideplate escutcheons. German silver ornamentation includes rectangular wrist plate & engraved oval name plate on cheekpiece. Hardwood ramrod held on iron under rib by brass thimble & 2 replacement brass pipes. Weight: 11 lbs. CONDITION: metal has mottled gray brown patina w/ spots of pitting becoming heavy in breech area. Nipple is removed. Stock has age darkened worn appearance w/ wood erosion above lock, crack through sideplate escutcheon & lg. chip at buttplate. Buttplate toe is bent. Functioning lock & trigger.
