MUHAMMAD ALI
(b. 1942) American boxer and three time heavyweight champion, stripped of his title for refusing military service. A superlative Ali signed photo "Muhammad Ali", 8" x 10" b/w, a vintage ca. 1970 pose of the champion leaning on the ropes and smiling at the camera, boldly signed in black marker. On the verso, the piece is also signed in blue ballpoint: "From Wali Muhammad Trainer of Ali". Fine condition. Sold with four 3 1/2" x 5" color photos, apparently taken in Manila, one showing Ali in a white robe, one with Wali's daughter (and captioned so on verso), a candid of Imelda Marcos, and a shot of two ladies. WALI "BLOOD" MUHAMMAD (1927-2012) was one of Ali's trainers and worked in his corner from the first Ali-Frazier fight, on. Previously, he had worked for Sugar Ray Robinson starting in 1948 until gaining employment with Ali in 1965. He died in 2012 on Ali's 70th birthday. An excellent association!
