Akbar, Silver Kori or 'Mahmudi', 5.37g, Mintless but most likely struck at Mustafabad (Junagarh) Mint, AH 981, Obv: Persian legend "Sultan Akbar Badshah" within borders, Rev: Persian legend "al-Sultan al-'Azam al-Dunyawa al-Din Abu al-Fateh with AH date". Extremely fine, extremely rare.
The design of this coin closely follows that of the Gujarat Sultans. It was most likely struck by the Governor of the Gujarat Sultans who was practically independent, acknowledging the suzerainty of Akbar, soon after the first conquest of Gujarat in AH980. It is rarer to come across a coin of this type with complete date.
