Featured in this lot is this original Montana State Fish & Game Commission game preserve sign from the late 1900s. This sign would have been posted on the property lines of the State Game Reserve to let hunters and others know that hunting and/or firing of weapons was strictly prohibited and anyone caught breaking these laws could be subject to a minimum fine of 25 dollars. The sign shows an orange color with black lettering reading, "Game Preserve / Purpose / The Area Behind This Sign Has Been Closed To Provide For Better Distribution And Propagation Of wildlife / Penalty: For violation, minimum fine of $25.00 or a maximum fine of $500.00 or by imprisonment in county jail not less than 10 days or more than 180 days or by both such fine and imprisonment / By order Of Montana State Fish And Game Commission". The wood sign shows good condition overall with slight wear present from its age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. The sign measures 9" L x 13" W and weighs 14 ounces.
