Measures 8 1/4" x 10 3/4". Addressed "To the Friends of Silver." Signed by the Washington Telegram. "The undersigned take the liberty of calling your attention to the critical situation of the market for silver bullion." This announcement suggested mine owners gather at a conference in Helena in regards to the owners' inactivity in supporting a bi-metallic standard in the U. S. The action occurred during the time that silver and gold conflicts were taking place. Silverites wanted the government to issue more silver coins to help alleviate the depression. The People's Party Platform of 1892 had the issue as one of its planks during the presidential election that year. The silver issue finally was settled by President McKinley, when he proposed the gold standard for American money. Hand bill is in excellent condition.
