Lot of 2. 1)The Alta Montana Company owned the Alta Mine which was an abandoned hardrock silver mine located outside of Corbin. It was incorporated in 1879 in Montana Territory. Shortly after the ore body at the Alta Mine was discovered in 1869, the property was sold to the Alta Montana Company. In 1883, the property was purchased by the Helena Mining and Reduction Company (also known as the Helena and Livingston Smelting and Reduction Company) which operated the mine until 1896. During operation of the mine by the Helena Mining and Reduction Company, between 150 and 200 tons of ore were mined per day. At the same time, a concentrator was constructed in Corbin, approximately 1.5 miles northwest of the Alta Mine. Hurley and signed by Robr. F. Brooke and Michael Snow, vice president, May 14, 1881. Black decorated border. Vignette of port town at foot of hill with steam train passing in foreground at top center and one of an underground mining scene at bottom center. 2) The Alta Mines Corporation includes a group of claims 2 mi southwest of Corbin, Montana. This silver mine was owned or leased by a series of at least eight mining companies between 1883 and 1923. The mine was develooped by a 682' shaft and tunnels of about 1,300'. This company was incorporated on May 9, 1924. It bought the Alta Corbin Mines Co., a later reincarnation of the Alta Montana Co. (Information from The Mines Handbook, 1931.) This is certificate number 377 for 750 shares issued to Harry S. Jenkins and signed by L. E. Whicher and R. M. Atwater, Jr., Aug. 3, 1926. Green decorative border with black text and a vignette of an eagle with outstreached wings.
