Early Lon Chaney Sr. posters are an extremely rare commodity, and we are only aware of one other copy of this exquisite image.

The poster, found beneath a linoleum rug, had an imprint across the left side, primarily from the mid-fold down. Despite this, it was fully intact and underwent overall expert restoration. This included addressing paper loss in the left border and image area, as well as repairing tears and creases. The retouched areas, including the MGM credit, and the airbrushing of three borders and yellow background, contribute to the poster's excellent presentation, showcasing a remarkable image of Lon Chaney in one of his diverse character make-ups.

"An ancient Chinese law requires that a dishonored maiden must perish at her father's hand," a concept at the heart of the 1927 MGM film Mr. Wu, which tells a story of miscegenation, fornication, and filicide. Lon Chaney, celebrated for his transformative makeup and character portrayals, adopts at least three of his legendary 1,000 faces to represent two members of the Wu family over three generations.
