It is rare that you will find a Period Antique Chinese Export Carp Tureen with a orange-red fish flopped on it's side with it's head and tail curling up and with a small carp perched on it's copver serving as a knop. BUT one sold at Christie's in New York on January 26,2006 for $168,000. This would seem to make this exact replica made by Mottahedeh to be quite a bargain. And to find a Motahedeh reproduction Fish or Duck Tureen has become almost as Rare. Mildred Motahedeh was the greatest collector of chinese export porcelain. She loved it so much that she and her husband Raffy opened a factory in Portugal and reproduced many patterns and shapes of Chinese Export Porcelain. She lived in New Jersey and ammassed her antique collection from auctions and dealers from Manhattan to London and any stop in between and furthur away. To find a piece marked Motahedeh doesn't happen often. This is a Motahedeh Fish Tureen with cover that is in Excellent Condition. It is marked on the bottom Motahedeh (We can email you more images of this great unusual piece). Wonderful Orange and Salmon colors with gold gilding. This one measures 21" from the fish's mouth to his tail. WONDERFUL SMALL FISH AS A HANDLE/FINIAL FOR THE COVER. DON'T LET THIS BIG FISH GET AWAY.
