MORGAN, JOHN T.
(1824 - 1907) Confederate brigadier general of the 51st Alabama, he fought at Bull Run and Chickamauga, and harassed Sherman from Atlanta to Savannah. An intensely personal A.L.S. to a lady, 3pp. 4to. on Senate letterhead, Washington, Dec. 22, 1889, in part: "…I will just say that, somehow, I love you very much. When an old man loves a little child, as I love you, it means that he thinks you are very good and bright and sweet…When you are grown up, and I am gone, I hope you will find pleasure in saying 'My old friend gave me that, when I was a little child, because he loved me'…I love precious little children and you are very sweet and good…". Tape repair to verso of page one, narrow chip at upper right margin grazes one letter of text, else very good.
