Solon (1835-1913) fled, during the Franco-Prussian war, from his native France and his position at the Sevres pottery, to join the Minton pottery at Stoke upon Trent in England. William Mussill (1826-1906) was an Austrian born artist specialising in the painting of natural history subjects. He produced richly painted ceramics for Sevres and later for Minton.
