<b>995. BERNARD LAW MONTGOMERY</b> (1887 - 1976) British Field Marshall who commenced the drive at El Alamein that ultimately drove Rommel from North Africa. Also involved in the invasions of Sicily and France. A neat Montgomery item, a small World War II printed pamphlet entitled "<i>Letter by the Commander-in-Chief on Non-Fraternisation</i>", 4pp. 16mo., [n.p.], Mar. 23, 1945, reading, in small part: <i>"...I want every soldier to be clear about `non-fraternisation'. Peace does not exist merely because of a surrender. The Nazi influence penetrates everywhere...Our occupation of Germany is an act of war of which the first object is to destroy the Nazi system. It is too soon for you to distinguish between `good' and `bad' Germans...You must keep clear of Germans, man, woman and child...</i>". Boldly signed on the cover "<i>Montgomery of Alamein</i>".
