pristine near mint condition Montblanc L139 Masterpiece fountain pen dating from the late 1930s together with its original box.

crisp imprints, glossy ebonite cap top and mechanism, celluloid barrel and perfect OB nib. And it has the more desirable long ink window with light amber celluloid with black stripes. This is one of the earlier versions of the 139 model from around 1939 as it has a hard rubber cap top and mechanism but celluloid cap tube and barrel but still has a long ink window and 14 Ct 250 nib. The pen looks stunning and has no issues, no cracks, no hairlines nor even any visible scratches to mention. The telescopic piston filling mechanism works smoothly and correctly. No lag or issues as is often the case with this model. The gold filled pocket clip and cap ring are pristine without any brassing except around the washer of the clip. The only sign of age is light patina on cap and superficial patina on the white casein cap star.

The pen comes complete with an exceptional and rare original large box. This box is in wonderful v condition also save for the loose elastic holder. L139 pens are coveted by collectors and, while they are not truly rare, to find one in near mint condition and with the correct box is really something special and uncommon.

This pen is fitted with a flexible 14C gold MONTBLANC no 250 nib (the earliest 139 pens were denoted L139 and had 250 imprinted on the nibs rather than 139) . The nib has a mighty chiselled Oblique Broad (OB) tip. The ebonite mechanism has L139 and OB imprints as well as patent number.

The pen has been recently overhauled professionally and given a good clean and the cork seal was replaced. The pen is therefore ready to be used but I imagine it is far more likely to find a place in an important Montblanc collection.
