MOLE & SONS MODEL 1821 ENLISTED MEN’S SABER & SCABBARD. Imported by Tiffany & Co. Saber is considered the Type I made by Mole & Sons of Birmingham, England. Wooden grip is covered with black leather and wound with twisted iron wire. Grip has backstrap with ears. Has half-basket guard with two fullers on the obverse side of the knuckle-bow and one smaller fuller on the reverse side. Quillon terminates in a disc. All metal parts of hilt are iron. Blade is marked on ricasso with a star above “TC”. Scabbard is made of iron and has an iron mounted drag. Saber has leather grip with brass wire wrap. Scabbard is correct. The scarcest of the Tiffany enlisted men’s sabers of the Civil War is the Model 1821. Total length: 41”, Blade length: 35 ½”
