MO - Royal Red Mine Photographs
Session D is a Mail-Bid Only Auction. Absentee bids will be accepted only. No live bidding will be allowed. All winners will be contacted after the auction. BIDDING ENDS MONDAY JUNE 27 AT 5PM PACIFIC TIME!!!
Lot includes 2 photographs, both measuring 7 1/2" x 5 3/4", in dark green mattes measuring 12" x 10": 1) group image of 13 miners posing, some kneeling behind ore buckets, in a relaxed setting underground. "Royal Red" appears in white near the upper center. 2) Two miners, one sitting on a wooden chair with his feet up, while the other walks away holding his axe out in front of him. "In The Royal Red Mine" appears in white across the top border. Both have medium contrast and good focus. No photographer listed for either piece. In the first image several of the miners look quite young, with a few looking a bit older. Based on the presence of "teapot" style headlamps, we believe this mine was in the midwest rather than the far west. Boxes in the second image are from the Joplin Powder Company, Joplin, MO. Fuses are also visible behind the miner on the right, and possibly in the hands of the miner on the left. While no specific information could be found related to the "Royal red Mine," these images might depict a lead/zinc mine in the midwest region.
