MITCHELL, ROBERT B.
(1823 - 1882) Union brigadier general who was severely wounded at Wilson's Creek. He later fought at Perryville and Chickamauga. A.L.S. ""Robert B. Mitchell"" as Governor of New Mexico, 1p. 4to., Santa Fe, Dec. 14, 1867, in part: ""àCapt. R [?] late quartermaster at Seldonàshot Judge Sloupe through the body a few hours since - Sloupe is probably mortally wounded. [?] are arriving here with a angry band. God knows what will be the result. I am doing everything I can to keep out a riotà"". An interesting document from his governorship that was plagued by ineptness. Some ink blotches, else very good.
