MIDNIGHT COWBOY

Polish A1 (23" x 32")
Very Fine+ on Linen; Artwork by Waldamar Swierzy
United Artists, 1973

In the realm of poster collecting, it's a common belief that the most unique and captivating posters often originate from Poland, and this atmospheric gem is no exception. The remarkable poster, featuring artwork by Waldemar Åšwierzy, stands out as more emblematic than many Polish posters, with its duotone color palette and minimalist design.

This exquisite image has been expertly mounted on linen and required virtually no retouching. Despite having been folded before, it now presents magnificently.

This was British director John Schlesinger's inaugural American film. It narrates the story of an improbable friendship between two young men striving to endure the gritty reality of New York during the tumultuous late 1960s. The film emerged as one of the significant successes of 1969, securing Oscars for Best Picture (notably the first X-rated film to do so), Best Director, and Best Screenplay. Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman delivered remarkable performances as a naive country boy and his cunning city-dwelling friend.
