MID 18TH CENTURY HESSIAN? FLINTLOCK PISTOL.
Cal. 73. NSN. Bbl. 11" oct. to rnd., stamped "IS" on top flat & w/ unknown proof on top left. Tang engraved "3". Arched lock w/ deeply chamfered cock, set faceted pan, unbridled friction frizzen & feather spring w/ long bulbous finial w/ teat. There are no exterior markings, but inside stamped w/ makers mark "IM". Fruitwood stock extends to muzzle & ends w/ iron band. There are insized lines around rear of lock & sideplate. There is raised carving around bbl. tang terminating in lg. teardrop. Either side of which is carved w/ the initials "I" & "E". Pistol is iron mounted having spurred grip cap w/ boss trigger guard w/ pine tree finial & fancy outline chamfered sideplate. There is no provision for a ramrod. CONDITION: good. Original flint. All metal parts are dark gray to brown, patina w/ scattered light pitting. All parts appear to be original. Stock is sound, minor splits at bottom front portion of lock & a number of sm. marks & dents overall. Otherwise w/ old, hand worn finish. Mechanically good.
