MICROTECH SMALL ARMS RESEARCH XM17-E4 BULLPUP.
Cal. 223. S# 600-P011431. Bbl. 16". The MSAR is an American mfg. bullpup, very similar in aesthetics to the Steyr AUG. In true bullpup fashion, the operator has the ability to utilize a long bbl. to take advantage of available ballistics w/ out sacrificing negative aspects of having a full sized rifle. Due to the placement of the action, which is under the cheek of the shooter, the bbl. extends forward from that point typically above the trigger creating a much smaller signature. The stock or chassis is black modeled plastic. Sm. section of the bbl. that is actually exposed is a combination of flutes & microgrooves for expedient cooling by increasing the surface area. Muzzle brake is a proprietary design. Several picatinny rail sections for accessory mounting of various lengths including 9.5" at 12 o’clock, 3" section at 3 o’clock, 5" section currently mounted at 45 degrees. Like all MSAR designs, it includes a retractable vertical pistol grip. Microtech Small Arms Research started production in 2005 & continued until 2015. They are now continuing their popular knife line. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: an Ace Case nylon travel bag. CONDITION: all outwards appearances indicate very little use, if any. Finish is complete w/ full coverage still enjoying its factory matte black appearance. Bore is shiny w/ good rifling. One issue known to be of particular concern is w/ the mag. release of the early guns, which was plastic rather than metal, as they were prone to breakage. This one, like many others, has succumb to that weakness & must be replaced or repaired in order to function properly, otherwise the fire control group appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. (21-722/JZ). MODERN. $800-1,200.
