MICKEY COHEN'S CASHMERE EMBROIDERED BATHROBE
MICKEY COHEN (1913 - 1976) American gangster who started his career as Bugsy Siegel's bodyguard, but said to have been absent at Siegel's death on orders from Meyer Lansky. Cohen later fought for control of the Los Angeles mob, surviving many attempts made by rival Jack Dragna to "eliminate" him, including dynamiting his home, shotgun blasts, and so on. Cohen won out once Dragna lost police protection and found himself in jail. After facing crime hearings with great aplomb, Cohen himself was finally nailed on tax charges, served ten years in jail, and "went straight". A superb relic from the flashy-dressing Cohen's wardrobe, his light brown cashmere bathrobe bearing his name "Mickey" embroidered on the left chest pocket. The robe is half-lined within, with the sleeves fully lined in a lighter brown rayon, and and the broad matching belt is also present. Labels within show that Cohen purchased this robe at Saks Fifth Avenue, and that its size is medium. In fine condition. From the founder and curator of a nationally-recognized crime-related museum who originally obtained a grouping of Cohen's clothing directly from Cohen's estate. With our COA offering fuller details of provenance, guarateed authentic for the life of the original purchaser.
