JUNE 14TH AUCTION
On the Victory Tour, Michael Jackson asked Mr. Whitten to design something for him that was different, unique and that no one else did before. Soon after, Michael and Mr. Whitten came up with the idea of a single glove, as he thought that wearing a pair of gloves was too ordinary, and to quote Michael "he felt one glove was cool, wearing two gloves seemed so ordinary". The first glove worn by Michael was a white glove with strips of crystal stones sewn on top of it. The white gloves were designed using 1,200 Austrian Swarovski crystals of various sizes. Each glove took approximately 40 man hours to sew on the crystals and the beading, and a day to actually sew each glove together by hand. During the mid eighties, Keith Holman had the pleasure of working with his dear friend and mentor, the late designer Bill Whitten whom designed costumes for the Jackson 5, Kenny Rogers, Neil Diamond, Lionel Richie, Cicely Tyson and a host of other artists. While Mr. Holman was fortunate to work as assistant designer for Mr. Whitten and Artistic Hand Beading, he was also responsible for making sure everything was on schedule, dealing directly with embroiders, beaders, tailors, designing, and going to fittings. This glove design was created during the end of the Victory Tour for Michael Jackson to use at the end of the west coast part of the tour and was one of the last 2 couture white gloves ever designed and created by Bill Whitten and Michael Jackson and made by Stella Ruata of Artistic Hand Beading and hand sewn by the original tailors. They took much longer to make than the other white classic gloves and time and workwise like the Fantasy Gloves and thus rarely ever made. This glove style was Michael’s favorite because of the intricacy of the loch-rosens and the better finger movement and grip. The glove was given back after the Victory tour and used for reference and been stored in acid free paper ever since and only bought out for special charity events where proceeds go to help. The glove includes a letter of authenticity from Keith Holman.
