MI. Michigan Centre. Bank of Michigan Centre. $5. 1830s. (Haxby MI-270 G8; Bowen ). Proof on card. Attractive train vignette at center; horsemen and cattle at left; milkmaid standing at right. Certainly one of the more difficult titles, with the demand to match. The $3 note of this series sold in Sale 265 (lot 2547) for a realization of $1840. This design is not plated in Haxby, and in fact, only the $1 is illustrated therein. As with the $3 note, this $5 denomination was believed by Bowen to be unique. Only remainders are priced in Haxby. From the Dr. Lee Collection, which should come as no surprise. Anticipate some competition with this one. As a bank, likely a Rarity 6, perhaps nearly a Rarity 7. NEBN. EF, some tears around POCs. Lightly age toned.
