BC-1976-Lot of 5: 1 is a pre-historic hammer head stone, thought to be approx. 2500 years old. It measures about 4"x3.75"x1.75". The binding ring that held it to the long-lost handle is clearly seen. It was collected near Mass City, MI. 2 is also a pre-historic hammer head stone, thought to have been used by natives to mine copper, which they used for weapons. It measures about 5"x4"x2.5". The binding ring that held it to the long-lost handle is clearly seen. It appears that it was not finished on 1 side, or the face was split. It was collected near Mass City, MI. 3 is a prehistoric pottery fragment sample, found near the Caledonia Mine, Mass City, MI. It measures approx. 1.5"x 2.5". 4 is a another pre-historic hammer head stone, approx. 2500 years old. It is near circular, and measures about 4.5" in dia. X 3" thick. The binding ring that held it to the long-lost handle is clearly seen. There is a section split out of it on one side. It was collected near Mass City, MI. 5 is a trio of pre-historic hammer head stones. These are smaller, and thought to be for finish work. These are also thought to be over 3500 years old. They measure about 3.5"x2"x1.5" for the largest, and 3"x1" for the smallest. The binding rings are clearly visible. It was collected near the Caledonia Mine, on the upper peninsula of MI. All these specimens & samples were collected by Ray J. Leone, a geologist at White Pine mine on the Keewenah peninsula from 1957 to 1976. HKA#64396
