MI. Grand Haven. Steamer Michigan. 25?. March 4, 1854. (Bowen 1). Typeset; steamer and train across left end; STEAMER MICHIGAN delicately printed across the center. Good for twenty-five cents in freight or passage. From the Dr. Lee Collection. VG, mounted on heavy album paper.
Absolutely wonderful early transportation scrip, it practically shouts of its rarity and desirability. As a Michigan scrip issue from a steamer -- both of which are in its title -- this piece transcends multiple areas of collector interest. It is signed by the ship's master, R. S. Parks and was circulated in commerce. The steamer Michigan was lost in Lake Erie in 1869. This one is worth fighting for, but let us use our bidding paddles.
