MEXICO: Felipe V, 1700-1746, AR 8 reales, 1737-Mo, KM-103, Cal-1446, Yonaka-M8.37, brightly polished and slightly retoned, with bold XF details despite light surface corrosion, recovered from Rooswijk, sunk in 1740 southeast of England, with 2004 certificate of authenticity, XF. The Rooswijk was built in 1737 for the Dutch East India Company (VOC). On January 9, 1740, it sank on the sand bank of Goodwin Sands, about 8km from the coast of Kent, claiming the lives of all 237 crewmen onboard and taking with it gold and silver worth in excess of 300,000 guilder. Its wreck was discovered by an amateur diver in 2004 at a depth of about 24 meters (79 ft).
