MERINID: Abu Al-Hasan 'Ali (1331-1351), silver square dirham (0.84g), AH 731-752. Legends identical to Almohad square dirhams, except the phrase "al-mahdiyyu imamuna" ("Al-Mahdi is our Imam") was replaced with "al-qur'anu imamuna" ("the Quran is our Imam"). Stylistic pattern, a tentative attribution to the Merinids based on the reverse "al-qur'anu imamuna" legend. - (possibly unpublished variety). Fine to very fine. Extremely rare or likely unique.
