Great antique silverplate wine holder calls to mind an iron
maiden torture device. It is a heavy silver plated holder/insulator
you lock a wine bottle into. It closes with a pin through the
handles. Around the bottom is a panel of Art Nouveau wild
flowers in low relief. It is quite an interesting piece and
something we seldom see.

Made by Meriden of their patented quadrupleplate silver.

Measures 11-1/2 inches tall. Most Bourdeaux, Burgundy
and even tall-neck Rhine bottles should fit.

Good overall condition. No dings, dents or creases. As with
most of this type of silver plate, the silver is worn. Also some
scratches. Note that the mouth is not perfectly round.

Marked: Patented 1891, as shown in photo # 4.

Please see our inventory for more sterling silver and
silverplate flatware and holloware by Gorham, Whiting, Wallace,
Reed &
Barton, Towle and other manufacturers, as well as fine
antiques of all kinds.
