Papal bullas are incredibly fascinating remnants of history. As if often the case with many popes of medieval times, there were some great ones and some.............challenged ones.

The reason I greatly enjoy these lead seals is that a A papal bull is a particular type of letters patent or charter issued by a Catholic Pope. The lead seal (bulla) is attached to the end of the document in order to authenticate it.

The style of these lead seals stayed consistent over many many hundreds of years!
