MCKINLEY BANDWAGON PORTRAIT ON BOARD. A portrait of McKinley on poplar. The panel is painted in black, white and buff within a spandril of red and white stripes. White stars & "planets" are painted on the blue background at top and bottom. The unidentified artist put his initials "EAJ" at the bottom right of the portrait. A funky piece of folk art found in Pennsylvania, probably dating from 1896. Panels of this type were used to decorate the sides of parade floats and bandwagons -- they rarely surface.
