<b>62. BEN MCCULLOCH</b> (1811 - 1862) Confederate brigadier general who organized pro-Confederacy Cherokees under Stand Watie and led forces fighting Lyon's troops at Wilson's Creek. McCulloch was killed by a sharpshooter at Pea Ridge, leading to the Confederate loss of the battle. Scarce A.D.S. <i>"Ben McCullouc</i>h" as U.S. Marshall with additional signature in text, 1p. 4to., Texas, Nov. 7, 1856 in which he appoints William G. King as a Deputy U.S. Marshall with ".<i>..full power and authority to execute all legal precepts directed to me as marshal aforesaid...</i>" With seven words in another hand in the body of text. Usual folds, a few creases, otherwise very good.<b>$700-900</b>
