(1826 - 1885) Union major general and general-in-chief of the army whose hesitation in attacking Confederate forces caused him to be sacked by Lincoln. A.L.S. on National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers letterhead, 2pp. 4to., Hampton, Va., Oct. 30, 1882 to fellow Gen. William B. Franklin. McClellan referring to the duties of the various chaplains at the home, recommending that the Roman Catholic chaplain's salary be increased, and that a chapel be built for use by both Catholics and Protestants. Very good.
