MCCLELLAN, GEORGE B.
(1826 - 1885) Union major general and general-in-chief of the army whose hesitation in attacking Confederate forces caused him to be sacked by Lincoln. Superb war-date S.P., a carte-de-visite photograph of McClellan showing him in full uniform with his sword, one hand tucked into his jacket, signed at bottom: "Geo. B. McClellan Maj. Gen. USA" Backstamp by Brady. The photo was originally set into a paper mount (present) with the notation: "New York Metropolitan Fair April 1864 For the benefit of Sick & Wounded Soldiers". Image bears two tiny holes at extreme top margin where it had been attached to the mount with both lower corners heavily creased, but not visible when mounted, some light toning at top, else very good.
