3x mining company stock from Eastern Nevada in the Eureka and Elko Mining Districts.

1. Eureka Consolidated Mining Company stock certificate No. A1212, issued 1889. Signed by president Tries. Ornate orange border, black print on white. Location, Eureka District, Eureka County, Nevada (printed bottom center).

The Eureka Consolidated MC was formed when a party of San Francisco businessmen bought out the owners of the Buckeye, Mammoth, Sentinel and other mining claims in July 1870. By the early 1870's, the Eureka Consolidated Mining Company had purchased several additional mines, build five blast furnaces for smelting ore, and constructed a narrow-gauge railroad from the mines to its reduction works (later sold to the Eureka and Palisade Railroad Company).

The production of the district from 1879-1883 was enormous, second only to the Comstock as a source of precious metals in the United States. From 1884 the output dwindled to a very small amount; the Eureka Consolidated Mining Company closed in 1891.

2. Cornucopia Consolidate Gold and Silver Mining Company stock certificate 544, incorporated March 29, 1875 in California. Issued to Hubbard and Co on February 15, 1877 in San Francisco. Cornucopia Mining District, Elko County, Nevada (printed bottom center). Signed by Lyman Mooney(?) (president) and John Pew (secretary). Uncanceled. Black border and print. Vignette of woman with horn of plenty. Printed by G.T. Brown, San Francisco (a noted African-American lithographer). Folds, creases, pinholes, toning. 4.25x9.5". Cornucopia had a problem with claim jumping throughout its relatively short life. The mine did not last long as an article in the Engineering & Mining Journal in 1878 reported, "It is rumored that work on the Cornucopia Consolidate mine will soon be started up." (FHWAC-6-15-13-876, P-80).

3. Independence Consolidated mining Company, incorporated in California March 18, 1869, stock certificate No. 62. Issued to J. Clem Uhler(?), Trustee for 50 shares on April 26, 1869 in San Francisco. Treasure Hill, White Pine Mining District, Nevada (printed at top). Mines listed are Independence 6000ft, Valejo 800 ft, Glengarry 1000ft, Bernadette 1000ft, Black Prince 1000ft, Edward Everett 1000ft. Signed by M.J. McDonald (president). Vignette of George Washington(?) mounted on horseback with arm outstretched pointing, horse rearing.
