Appointed emperor by the French, who had taken advantage of the American Civil War to capture Mexico, he lacked popular support and was captured and executed by Mexican republicans when France withdrew from the country under American pressure. DS in German, 1p, 12mo, Mexico City, Feb 4, 1867. Untranslated. Authorization of payment of 4000 Pesos to Professor Billineck from Maximilian’s private funds. Boldly signed less than four months before he was executed. Penned across horizontal fold; occasional light foxing; two light tape stains at folds; o/w VG. Handsomely matted beside superb color portrait of the emperor. Overall 18¼"x12¼".

11. All bidding is done in a competitive manner. The
winning bid will always be one bidding increment
over the second highest bid. The minimum
acceptable bid for any lot is 50% of the low
estimate given in the item description or $25,

12. Payment is expected immediately upon receipt of
invoice. All accounts are payable to Signature
House. Payment must be made in U.S. funds. Wire
transfer details are available upon request.
West Virginia residents will pay a sales tax of
6% unless a resale number is filed with us prior
to the closing date. For sales outside of the USA
a credit card is requested.

13. Shipment is made via U.S. Postal Service or
Airborne unless otherwise instructed. Handling,
shipping and insurance charges are added to the
invoice. Oversize and foreign shipments are subject
to increased charges. All items are shipped

14. Golden Guarantee: All material is returnable within
seven days providing that it comes back in the same
condition. There is a lifetime guarantee on
authenticity to the original purchaser. The item(s)
must be returned with two letters denying it’s
