MAXIME WEYGAND
(1867 - 1965) French general who fought under Foch at the Marne, and in World War II replaced the panic-stricken Gamelin as chief of the general staff, captured by the Germans as he sought to join the Free French. Insightful A.Q.S. "Weygand" on his personal correspondence card, 1p. 12mo., [n.p.], June 11, 1932, in French: "France does not understand that it is enough to be dressed in propaganda to forget the responsibilities of war and the barbaric fashion in which it is conducted". Fine. Eight years later, almost to the day, Paris would fall to the Germans.

Estimate: $200 - 300.
