Provenance: Austrian Collection Maria Vescovo, Max Weiler - Der verzauberte Berg / The Enchanted Mountain: The colours steeped in the splendour of Weiler's painting illuminate the ultimate elusive beauty referred to by Robert Walser, they evoke forgotten and rediscovered sensations, and lend a new freshness to visual pleasures and our ability for enjoyment, such as can be hard to come by in a society determined by mass media. "Objects" exist only to the degree to which we perceive, even imagine, their light and their colour; "Farben des Tages" contains a host of such colours. In many of Weiler's picture reality, the course of life, are symbolised by a moving shade of blue... Weiler's painting combines naturalness and symbolism, natural phenomenon and miracle, showing man's existence called into question in the face of time and the cosmos: a process that is always also about a quest for "origins". This art captures the "panic" dimension of objective reality, frequently coming dangerously close to a multi-facetted mysticism. The image is related to a sense of infinity, a sense of some "other' space beneath the surface, a quality which also informs the tragic depths of Caspar David Friedrich or the spiritual light of Cezanne.
