Il Dolce Biglietto - one of the RARE pair of (uncirculated - never framed) French pochoirs by Italian artist, Max Ninon (Vittorio Accornero de Testa-1896-1982), born in Casale Monferrato, Italy. Ninon exhibited at and won the gold medal at the Paris Expo in 1925 - the famous L'Exhibition des Arts Decoratifs - from which Art Deco derives its name. These OUSTANDING pieces are signed in pencil and numbered. They are watermarked and are in rare uncut condition - with dust cover, borders are untrimmed, as they have never been framed. Artwork is affixed to heavy stock brown paper sheet on the top. This sheet is mounted (also on the top) to another grayish brown backing sheet. Backing sheets are inscribed - IL DOLCE BIGLIETTO or IL RITORNO DAL BALLO. The subject matter is of couples from from Verdi's opera Rigoletto, in various postures of masquerade and rendezvous. Pochoir, which is the French word for stencil, is sometimes called hand-coloring or hand-illustration. Pochoir, as distinguished from ordinary stencil work Serigraph, is a highly refined technique, skillfully executed in a specialized workshop. The overall size is approximately 42 x 32 cm (16-5/8 x 12-3/8 inches), image size is 27.5 19.5 cm (11 x 7-5/8 inches). Condition of artwork and brown stock paper is EXCELLENT, backing paper is extremely fragile and may have some tears, however, it may be replaced (if desired) before framing.
