Beautiful original Serigraph from Verdi's opera Rigoletto. The Serigraph is affixed to heavy stock brown paper sheet on the top, this sheet is mounted (also on the top) to another grayish brown backing sheet. This backing sheet is inscribed Il dolce biglietto. All original - including transparent dust cover on the front. Overall dimension is 16-1/2" x 12-1/4". Grey backing sheet is very fragile, shows age deterioration. However, it may be replaced (if desired) before framing. Serigraph is signed Max Ninon, numbered and in MINT condition. Vittorio Accornero de Testa (1896-1982) was born in Casale Monferrato, Italy. Before the WWI he had established himself as a book illustrator and painter using the name VICTOR MAX NINON. In 1925, his color pochoir won the Gold medal at the International Exposition of Decorative Arts in Paris. This important exhibition introduced the Art Déco style. By the 1930's, he returned to book illustration and his original name. Vittorio Accornero illustrated the best loved versions of Pinocchio, Grimm?s Fairytales and books by Hans Christian Anderson. During his long career Accornero also designed sets and costumes for the theater and movies as well as La Scala in Milan. In 1966, he was contracted by Gucci to design fabric for women's handbags. His floral design is still in production today. Other Serigraph form this series (IL RITORNO DAL BALLO) is listed separately.
