[MATTHEW RIDGEWAY]

[MATTHEW RIDGEWAY] (1895-1993). Commanded airborne divisions in Europe during WW II. He and his 82nd Airborne parachuted behind Utah beach on D-day and were able to secure vital points including Ste-Mère-Eglise. He later replaced General Mac Arthur in Korea and served as Army chief of staff (1953-55). Offered is his English-made overseas cap with two bullion stars and braid trim as major general. The size 7 cap is stenciled by the maker, “J. Collett Ltd. 1944” on inside leather band. Accompanied by letter of authenticity by well-known collector stating that the cap “was obtained from his estate sale just after his death from the Melon Inst. of Pittsburgh, Pa...” Included also is a reproduction of a WW II era half-length b/w photograph of Ridgeway wearing 82nd Airborne patch and two-star helmet. Very nice collection.
