Sea life fascinated Meheut, as did the traditional clothing of the local, which have since disappeared. Meheut was the official artist for the French Navy for a number of years and traveled and worked extensively in Japan and Crete. He also became recognized for ceramic designs and partnered with Henriot Quimper (Kempter), a well-known French ceramic designer and producer.

All the Meheut lots offered have a unique provenance and are accompanied by a letter of authenticity. The two sketches were gifted by the artist to Harriot and John Preston Minton in 1929, in appreciation of their friendship and patronage. Mr. Minton had a strong interest in the arts, as he was a direct descendant of Herbert Minton, who founded the Minton china/ceramic factories of Stoke-on-Trent England in 1793. Knowing of Meheut's dabbles in ceramic design; Minton became interested in Meheut's artwork purchasing a number of the artist's paintings. Meheut's have remained within the Minton family until know, their debut on the open art market. Condition Report: Normal signs of wear as appropriate with age

Shipping: Requires 3rd Party Shipping (view shipping information)
