<hr align=left size=5 width=33% color=#778899>Collection of eleven mostly 19th century governors. Included are six partly printed DsS, 1p each, various sizes, 1820-68. Political appointments in Frederick County, signed by <b><font size=-1>Samuel Sprigg</font></b> (1783-1855); <b><font size=-1>Thomas W. Veazey</font></b> (1774-1842); <b><font size=-1>William Grason</font></b> (1788-1868); <b><font size=-1>Francis Thomas</font></b> (1799-1876); <b><font size=-1>Thomas G. Pratt</font></b> (1804-1869); and <b><font size=-1>Thomas Swann</font></b> (1809-1883). Plus a <b>war-date</b> partly printed bank check drawn on Mechanics Bank, Baltimore, Aug 19, 1864. Attractive vignette at left margin. Signed and completed by Civil War governor <b><font size=-1>A. W. Bradford</font></b> (1806-1881). Light wear and cut cancellation slightly touching first initial. Also <b><font size=-1>John Walter Smith</font></b> (1845-1925). TLS, 1p, 4to, Snow Hill, Nov 11, 1899. To Hon. James L. Norris in Washington expressing appreciation for congratulatory telegram and campaign support. Good political content. Poor condition displaying file holes and marginal tears with some paper loss not affecting text. Also, TLS by four-term Governor <b><font size=-1>Albert Ritchie</font></b>, 1p small 4to, Annapolis, Jan 12, 1933. On personal Executive Department letterhead to Ray Tucker of Scripps-Howard inviting him to his “<i>Terrapin Dinner at the Executive Mansion</i>...” Ritchie declined FDR’s invitation to be his first running mate. Present also is an SP, b/w, 8"x10" quarter-length portrait of <b><font size=-1>Harry W. Nice</font></b> (1877-1941). Lastly a TLS by <b><font size=-1>Wm. Preston Lane Jr</font></b>. (1892-1967), 1p, 4to, Baltimore, Jul 12, 1946. On Democratic Candidate letterhead to John F Conroy thanking him for a “<i>letter which you sent out in my behalf.</i>..” All boldly signed as governor except Lane. Overall in very good condition with noted exceptions.
